A Thank You, And A Little Magic

1391081_beach_heartHello again, my lovelies.

I thought it appropriate to post one last message on this site, for two reasons.

First, I owe many of the Featured Authors from Olde City, New Blood a huge thank you. This will seem a bit vague for some reading this post, but trust me when I say that they went above and beyond (and they don’t listen worth squat, lol!!), and they have hearts of pure gold. THANK YOU!!!

Second, Featured Author registration has begun for Coastal Magic Convention!! This is the current (and hopefully, future) incantation of Olde City, New Blood. We had to move to Daytona to find more suitable accomodations, and with the move came the new name. I hope all of you who were following this blog, and came to the event, will join us in February in Daytona Beach! You can follow the new event site at http://CoastalMagicConvention.wordpress.com for all the news and updates. The first of the Featured Authors will be listed on the site later tonight!!! General Registration for Coastal Magic will start on July 1st, and will be $70. I hope to see all of you there!!!

Thanks to everyone who helped my little party become such an amazing thing to share. You all mean the world to me. See you in February!!!

*hugs*

Holy Amazeballs, Batman!!! (or… My Wrap Up Post)

Wow… just… wow.

Can I just start this post out by saying how much I LOVE authors, and readers, of urban fantasty and paranormal romance. I would imagine other genres have amazing authors, too, but I choose to believe that my little bubble of peeps has the kindest, funniest, most enthusiastic, most imaginative bunch of souls. I saw evidence of that last weekend.

Let’s start this recap at the beginning, shall we?? Some of you know that Olde City, New Blood began as a response to my whining about not having enough cool author events in Florida. Mr. James R Tuck convinced me that I could, in fact, plan a mini-convention that featured local(ish) authors and get local(ish) readers to attend. He had so much more faith in my ability than I did, but I ran with it. Thank you, James, for planting that little seed and helping it grow.

A year later (almost to the day), I stood in a hotel event room in St. Augustine beach, with 46 authors and 140 readers asking ME where to go and what to do!!!!

Thanks, a lot, James, lol!!!!

This was easily the most insane, most stressful, most amazing thing I’d ever put together. It took, oh Lord, I have NO IDEA how many hours of planning. It took some help along the way from some really amazing people. Nancy Haddock was my “sidekick” for many of my excursions into St. Augustine. She lives there, and is familiar with the area and the people. She’s also a fantastic author, and had visited my book club in the past. Those of you who enjoyed the ghost tour through downtown have Nancy to thank for putting that all together. (Her series’ main character is a vampire, and a St. Augustine tour guide, lol… you GOTTA read those books!!) My sister Dolorianne (photographer, blogger, support system) was my sounding board and *is this nuts?* monitor along the way. She was crazy busy with her own life, but managed to find time to help me when I needed it most. I absolutely couldn’t have pulled this off without her. She makes my heart smile.

There were so many other people who helped make Olde City, New Blood happen. My aunt and uncle took on shipping and receiving, and helped fill envelopes and lanyards. The other girls in my book club helped with prep (stuffing bags, folding t-shirts, loading and unloading the trailer)…

Then they, along with some really awesome book bloggers, moderated panels, fielded questions, and generally did an incredible job of keeping things running relatively smoothly during the weekend.

The authors pitched in, too. (Remember, I said before that my peeps were the best!) Authors who came in early on Friday were helping stuff last minute goodies into swag bags, moving chairs & tables, and hanging signage. Someone even brought me Dr. Pepper when I desperately needed it, and for that, I will be eternally grateful, lol.

Once the event “officially” started, things went kind of in a blur for me. Lots of questions to answers, mixed up ghost tour issues to handle, where’s this panel, where’s that reading. So many things went off without a hitch, but of course, there were things that needed tweaking. I really appreciate EVERYONE who had the patience to let this newbie planner fix their issues without freaking out on me. And I’m glad that, in most cases, the issues were small and fairly easily fixed.

I didn’t get to attend many panels (actually, only three, and that’s because I was involved in them!!), but I heard that most went well. Interestingly, the ones I thought were kind of “iffy” ended up being the ones that generated the most buzz!! The Bad Movie Tweet Up was a blast, and people were re-tweeting the comments for days. The dating game got off to a rough start, but ended up hilarious. And the Flash Fiction panel, I heard, was an absolute riot!! I can’t wait for SOMEONE to post a video or a transcript of that one!! (The other panel I did was on starting a book club/book blog. Dianna Love attended that and was very kind. Thanks, Dianna.)

I really love that people got so involved in their panels, readings, and meet & greets. What I imagined as simple chat time, Hilde McQueen, Laura Kaye, and Rosalie Lario turned into a full blown party (complete with decorations, candy, and Pina Coladas!!). Word of Lexi George’s hysterical reading spread quickly, I wish I had been able to see that! And there was other impromptu awesome spread throughout the weekend.

If you attended… authors – you have a feedback form in your inbox – I would love to hear your thoughts on some of the details… and readers – there is a feedback form on the registration page of this website (easy link here) – please let me know what you thought as well. If I’m gonna do this again, I want to fix the things that went wrong, and keep the things that went right. I need to hear from YOU to make that happen.

This was year one of Olde City, New Blood. I absolutely WANT to do it again next year. (Insane, I know, but remember… WOW!) The issue is… can I find a place to hold the event that doesn’t give people the heebie-jeebies, for a reasonable price, and make it at least as fun as this year’s event. I’m working on some ideas now, and plan to make a decision by the end of this month. If we are gonna do this, I know people need to make plans. I’m keeping my fingers crossed I can make it happen.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!! To all the authors, sponsors, and readers who were a part of this. I really cannot possibly thank you enough. I hope you had as much fun as I did!!

I didn’t take many pictures (all those awesome authors, and I have very little proof I was there, lol!!), but the few I have, and a few my uncle took for me, are below (click to enlarge). I’m also including some links to other recaps of the weekend. Many include their own stories, and many include other pictures. I hope you take a few minutes to check them out.

*Important Notes*

HOLY SHINDIGS, BATMAN!!! It’s almost time for the mini-con!!!!

I have two quick things to mention about the weekend.

1) Even if you were not able to register for the whole weekend, you CAN still attend the charity signing on Sunday. It’s 12-2pm, open to the public, and benefits both our local Friends of the Library, and Habitat for Humanity chapters. Come by, buy some books, chat with some authors, and have some fun 🙂

2) If you ARE attending for the weekend, and signed up for a ghost tour… we are providing ONLY ONE METHOD OF TRANSPORTATION to and from downtown. Please do not miss the trolley. Pickup times are:

  • Friday night – 7:00pm leaving hotel –> downtown
  • Friday night – 9:20pm leaving downtown –> hotel
  • Saturday night – 7:20pm leaving hotel –> downtown
  • Saturday night – 9:40pm leaving downtown –> hotel

There will be information about this in your welcome packet, but I wanted to give you a heads up for planning purposes.

Can’t wait to see everyone there!!!

Time is RUNNING OUT to register!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen!!!!

I would love to take reservations right up until the weekend of the event. But the truth is, I have to get stuff ready, there are orders to be placed and THINGS TO DO!! 🙂

I need to have an accurate count of who’ll be joining us for the weekend, and that means I have to stop accepting registrations. This will happen in TWO DAYS!!! January 12th will be the last day to register. So if you want to come hang out with readers who love UF/PNR fiction, and the authors who slave away to bring it to us… GET THEE TO THE REGISTRATION PAGE!! 🙂

We’re not planning a big fancy shindig here… it’s very casual, without a lot of fancy extras… but you’ll get LOTS of time to chat with some really awesome authors, and hang out with other readers. The fee is crazy cheap, and we’re talking the beach – in Florida – in February!

Now, if you’d like to be a part of this event, but can’t come for the whole weekend. There IS a public (free) signing from 12-2 on Sunday. Come by, buy some books, chat with authors, meet up with friends. I really want everyone to be able to take advantage of having so many awesome authors around to chat with.

Tell your friends, pass along the links, make plans, and come play with us! I can’t wait to see you all there!!!

Hi there!!

This is going to be a pretty quick update. Just a few things to share…

1) All three of our WIN YOUR WAY IN contest winners have responded, so it’s a done deal. I would love it if some of you who entered, but didn’t win, were still able to join us. Can’t wait to see all your smiling faces in February!!

WIN YOUR WAY IN Free Registration Contest Winners!!!!

Hi everyone 🙂

I’ve had so much fun this past week, checking out all the guest blogs and popping in on authors sites to see all the entries adding up. I wish I could give you ALL free admission, but then… who would pay for all the stuff??? We’d all just be hanging out, literally ON the beach, with sleeping bags and piles of books, lol. (Huh… that’s not such a bad idea… makes a note for next year.)

For THIS year, however… people have to pay (a very reasonable, if I do say so myself) admission. EXCEPT THESE THREE PEOPLE, who successfully Rafflecoptered their way through blog posts and websites to WIN THEIR WAY IN!!!

Stephanie (with “twcny” in your email address)

Carin (with “maw” in your email address)

Lillie (with “onlife” in your email address)

Congratulations ladies!!  You have been emailed and will have one week to respond, or another winner will be chosen in your place.

Thank you, thank you, thank you… to everyone who visited blogs, and commented, and shared the information with their friends online and off. I really hope you had a good time checking out all the fun posts. If you did NOT win… don’t fret too much. The fee for the weekend is only $40… you get panels, readings, and meet & greets with 50 authors!!! Lots of time to chat with your favorites, and lots of opportunity to increase your TBR pile with new-to-you authors. We’re not doing fancy. We’re doing simple, relaxing, and fun. I hope to see you there!!! (We do have a limited amount of space in the small hotel, and a limited number of tickets available. If you’re still interested… don’t wait too long to register.)

Ummm… Yeah… About That…

Hi All!!!

Quite a bit has been happening in the last couple of days. Most of it has been really good, and one not so good.

Right *AFTER* I posted my “Final Lineup” of Featured Authors, a few people (people who know infinitely more about event planning than I do) made a few suggestions. Many of their ideas will affect behind the scenes, to help things run smoother. One very NOT behind the scenes suggestion was to go ahead and round up the author list to 50 instead of stopping at an oddball number like 44. There are a couple of reasons for this, which I won’t bore you with here… but what it boiled down to was me pulling some people from the waiting list to take us to 50 FEATURED AUTHORS!!! (insert flaily arms and crazy happy dance here)

The last authors added were:

  • Jennifer L Armentrout
  • Cyndi Tefft
  • C J Ellisson
  • Ciara Knight
  • Janet Breakfield
  • Caridad Pineiro

For those of you paying VERY close attention, and those who are quick counters… you’ll notice that there are not 50 authors listed on the Featured Author page. This is because we’ve had our first cancellation. Alyssa Day will be home with her family while her husband leaves, yet again, for duty in the US Navy. All of us involved with Olde City, New Blood thank them for their service and sacrifice.

This means I’ll be pulling one more author from the waiting list. As soon as I have confirmation, I’ll update the page again. Just a reminder, any new requests from authors for featured status will result in addition to the waiting list. That list is what I’ll draw from for any cancellations. There is also the opportunity for authors to participate in the public signing on Sunday, only. Please email me for details.

Speaking of Sunday, I’m almost finished with the schedule for the two days of panels, readings, and meet & greets. PLEASE NOTE: The public signing has been moved to an earlier time on Sunday (12 – 2 pm). This was changed to accommodate authors who need to leave in the afternoon on Sunday.

One last thing… and it’s a BIG thing.

The Featured Bloggers, and a few of our Featured Authors, will be hosting a blog-hop-styled contest from September 30th – October 6th!!! The bloggers will be spotlighting some of our featured authors, and some of the authors will have special posts on their sites/blogs. What can you win, you ask?? FREE REGISTRATION TO THE MINI-CON!!! That’s right… 3 lucky people will win registration to the event!! (Winners will be responsible for their own travel and hotel costs, only the registration fees will be covered by Olde City, New Blood.) Keep your eye out for the official start announcement on September 30th, here on this blog, for all the details.

Ok… I think that’s it for now. Look for the final schedule and contest details coming soon, along with the last Featured Author name.

Hope to see you all by the beach in February!! We’re gonna have SO much fun. 🙂
